Had to post this nifty little trick I picked up from Jojo Mayer. The right hand may look a little strange here but I’m muting the snare while playing the hi hat and rim clicks. I’m also pressing the stick into the snare which causes a slight overtone when you hit the hi hats. Towards the end I am muting the snare on and off which changes the pitch/timbre slightly.

Check my second snare muting video out too, I’m applying the same idea to more straight dance/electronica beats. Ah the possibilities are endless lol.

Left hand wise its mostly all Moeller technique for the fast 16ths and a bit of Gladstone technique for the singles and doubles. I’m also trying to learn a bit of KJ Sawka’s technique too, he has such a nice touch on the snare that seems to suit the genre better. Check him out if you haven’t already, sick!

The kit I’m playing has sadly seen better days. Its the practice/teaching kit at work and its in dire need of some new skins. But hey, a bad workman blames his tools.

Please excuse the video quality. High quality videos coming soon...
