This is a follow up to my previous video on snare muting.
Here's another trick I discovered recently for creating processed drum sounds acoustically while muting the snare drum with the right hand.
The right hand may look a little strange here but I'm muting the snare while playing the hi hat and rim clicks. I'm also pressing the stick into the snare which causes a slight overtone when you hit the hi hats and also changes the pitch/timbre of the snare slightly.
By pushing the right stick past the hi hats, you can quickly play a rim click with the same hand. Then, by adding another note on the snare with the left hand, you get a three note pattern that sounds like the processed drum sounds used in electronic music and it sounds faster than it really is. I'm almost pushing the right stick "through" the hi hats when it gets really fast.
I thought I would add an audio clip of my band - New Groove Formation playing our popular drum n bass track "Bedford Street" over the end credits.
