Here is a great exercise for improving your speed, endurance and control with the Single Stroke Roll. It will also help you create an even sound when playing single strokes using finger control. It isolates each hand in order to perfect the motion and leads with both the right and left hand.
The exercise is widely known as Eight on a Hand as it contains eight strokes on each hand.
Try to limit wrist and arm motion to an absolute minimum. Also, do not squeeze the stick between the thumb and index finger, this will create unnecessary friction on the stick and will slow you down. The faster you want to play, the more relaxed you need to be!
